Every Curl Has a Story / Cada Rizo Tiene una Historia

Lina loved looking at her hair in the mirror.

Her Type 4 curls were soft, full, and beautiful. Some days they stood tall and proud. Other days they were small and close to her head. Every day, they were different.

One morning, Lina went to school wearing her hair in a big, beautiful puff.

Her friend Maya smiled.

Su amiga Maya sonrió.

"Your hair looks beautiful today!"

"¡Tu cabello se ve hermoso hoy!"

"Thank you!" Lina said. "I love how big my curls look."

"¡Gracias!", dijo Lina.

At lunch, the girls began talking about their hair.

Maya said, "My hair is low porosity. Sometimes water takes a little time to soak into my curls."

Lina nodded. "Mine is high porosity. My hair loves moisture, but it can lose it quickly."

Another friend, Sofia, joined them.

Otra amiga, Sofía, se unió a ellas.

"Mine is medium porosity," she said. "My hair likes a nice balance."

The girls looked at one another and smiled.

Las niñas se miraron y sonrieron.

"Our hair is different," Maya said.

"Nuestros cabellos son diferentes", dijo Maya.

"And that is wonderful," Lina replied.

"Y eso es maravilloso", respondió Lina.

Their teacher, Ms. Rose, overheard them.

Su maestra, la señora Rosa, las escuchó.

She said, "Remember, girls, hair does not have to look the same to be beautiful."

"Some curls are tight. Some are soft. Some shrink a lot. Some stretch out. Some love lots of moisture, while others prefer lighter products."

She smiled and added, "Your hair deserves kindness."

Ella sonrió y agregó: "Su cabello merece cariño."

Lina thought about those words all day.

That evening, she gently washed and moisturized her hair. She did not rush. She was patient with every curl.

Esa tarde, lavó e hidrató suavemente su cabello. No tuvo prisa. Fue paciente con cada rizo.

She looked in the mirror and smiled.

Se miró en el espejo y sonrió.

"My curls do not need to be perfect," she said. "They just need to be loved and cared for."

The next morning, Lina saw Maya and Sofia at school.

They were all wearing their curls in different styles.

Todas llevaban sus rizos en diferentes estilos.

Maya wore two beautiful puffs.

Maya llevaba dos hermosos puffs.

Sofia wore long twists.

Sofía llevaba largas trenzas.

Lina wore her curls free and fluffy.

Lina llevaba sus rizos sueltos y esponjosos.

They looked different.

Se veían diferentes.

They looked beautiful.

Se veían hermosas.

And most importantly, they felt proud.

Y lo más importante, se sentían orgullosas.

From that day forward, the girls made a promise.

They would never make someone feel bad about their hair.

They would compliment one another, share what they learned, and remember that every curl deserved respect.

Because Type 4 hair is not just hair.

It can be a crown.

Puede ser una corona.

It can be a story.

Puede ser una historia.

It can be an expression of love, beauty, culture, and confidence.

And every beautiful curl deserves to shine.

Y cada hermoso rizo merece brillar.

The Three Curl Sisters / Las Tres Hermanas de los Rizos

There were three sisters named Amara, Nia, and Zuri. All three girls had beautiful Type 4 hair, but their curls did not behave in exactly the same way.

Había tres hermanas llamadas Amara, Nia y Zuri.

Amara had **high-porosity hair**. Her curls absorbed water very quickly. When she washed her hair, it became wet almost right away. But her hair also lost moisture quickly.

"Your hair is like a little sponge," Mama said. "It loves moisture, so we must help it keep that moisture."

Amara learned to use moisturizing products and protect her curls with gentle styles. Her hair felt softer, stronger, and happier.

Nia had **medium-porosity hair**. Her curls absorbed water well, and they did not lose moisture too quickly. Her hair seemed to say, "I like things just right."

Nia smiled when she heard that. She kept her hair clean, moisturized, and protected. Her curls were easy to care for when she gave them what they needed.

Zuri had **low-porosity hair**. Her hair did not absorb water as quickly. Sometimes the water seemed to sit on top of her curls before soaking in.

"Your curls like to take their time," Mama said with a laugh.

"Come hidratarse un poco antes de saber qué hacer."

"Your curls like to take their time," said Mama with a laugh.

"Come on," Zuri said, smiling. "They are just being careful!"

"¡Vamos!", dijo Zuri, sonriendo. "¡Solo están siendo cuidadosos!"

Mama explained that low-porosity hair can benefit from warmth and light products that help moisture get into the hair without making it feel heavy.

One Saturday, the sisters sat together in front of the mirror.

"High porosity," said Amara.

"Alta porosidad", dijo Amara.

"Medium porosity," said Nia.

"Porosidad media", dijo Nia.

"Low porosity," said Zuri.

"Baja porosidad", dijo Zuri.

They laughed.

Se rieron.

Their hair was different, but every head was beautiful.

They learned that there was no "better" porosity. High, medium, and low porosity were simply different ways that hair could absorb and hold moisture.

Their Type 4 curls were beautiful in every form: thick, soft, fluffy, coily, springy, and full of life.

From that day on, the sisters stopped comparing their hair. Instead, they learned to listen to it, care for it, and celebrate it.

Because beauty was not about having the same hair.

Beauty was about loving the hair you had and learning how to care for it.

The Beauty of Type 4 Curls / La Belleza del Cabello Rizado Tipo 4

Maya looked into the mirror every morning. Her hair was full of soft, beautiful Type 4 curls. The curls were small, springy, and reached toward the sky. They were unique, just like her.

Sometimes Maya wished her hair looked like someone else's. She saw straight hair and loose curls everywhere. She wondered why her hair was so different.

One day, her grandmother smiled and said, "Your curls tell a story. They are strong, beautiful, and full of history. Every curl is a crown."

Maya touched her hair with gentle hands. She learned to wash it with care, keep it moisturized, and protect it while she slept. Little by little, her curls became healthy and shiny.

At school, a little girl said, "I love your hair. It looks like a soft cloud."

Maya smiled. "Thank you," she said. "My curls are special."

Maya sonrió. "Gracias", respondió. "Mis rizos son especiales."

That day, Maya realized beauty comes in many shapes, colors, and textures. Her Type 4 curls did not need to be changed. They were already beautiful.

She walked with confidence, wearing her curls proudly. Her hair reminded her to stand tall, be kind, and love herself every single day.

Minibraids Again!

It's about to be month 2 of having the minibraids in! On the 26 of July, it is will be three months. They are growing and getting thicker from me messing up and it thinning. In the pictures above, they are tucked in. I did two ponytail twists and tucked the end in. Since no one has commented about how long I should leave them in, I will choose! If the three months go well I might try and do another 2 months! I hope seeing this journey will help someone to get into the groove of minibraids and start retaining their hair. I am taking the prenatals again! I figured I am missing some type of nutrition/nutrients. I'll do a length check at the end of this challenge, per usual. You can find length checks on my Tiktok page at SincerelyDaniGirl.

The Missing Piece: Nutrients

For years, Nia loved her natural hair.

Every wash day, she carefully detangled her thick coils, deep conditioned, and twisted her hair before bed. Her curls were healthy, soft, and beautiful. Yet no matter what she did, her hair seemed to stay the same length. It would grow a little, then break. Grow a little more, then shed. It felt like she was running in circles.

She tried every product she could find. Oils, butters, leave-ins, scalp massages, protective styles—nothing seemed to solve the problem. Her hair looked healthy, but it wasn't retaining length.

One day, while talking with her grandmother, Nia mentioned her frustration.

"Maybe your hair isn't the problem," her grandmother said. "Maybe your body is missing something."

The idea stayed with Nia. She began paying closer attention to her nutrition. She realized that between work, school, and daily life, she often skipped balanced meals and wasn't always getting enough vitamins and minerals.

After speaking with her healthcare provider, Nia started taking a prenatal vitamin that was appropriate for her needs. She didn't expect miracles. She simply wanted to support her overall health.

Months passed.

Her hair routine stayed mostly the same, but something felt different. Her new growth seemed stronger. She noticed less breakage when detangling. The ends of her hair felt healthier, and she wasn't seeing as many strands in the shower drain.

By the end of the year, Nia stood in front of her mirror and smiled. Her curls now brushed her shoulders. For the first time in years, her hair wasn't just growing—it was staying.

She realized the prenatal vitamins hadn't magically made her hair grow overnight. Instead, they may have helped provide nutrients her body had been lacking, allowing her hair to be stronger and better able to retain the growth it was already producing.

The lesson surprised her.

The answer hadn't been hidden in another expensive jar or bottle. It was a reminder that healthy hair begins with a healthy body. Once she gave her body the support it needed, her natural hair had a better chance to thrive.

As she twisted her long, thick curls that evening, Nia thought about how often people searched for a secret product. Sometimes the missing piece wasn't on the outside at all.

Sometimes it was within.

And with patience, consistency, and care, her natural hair finally had the chance to show just how far it could grow.

Note: This is a fictional story. Prenatal vitamins are intended for specific nutritional needs and are not guaranteed to improve hair growth or length retention. It's best to consult a healthcare professional before starting any supplement.

Healing Hair: Prenatals work!

Hey,

I want to come on here and say. Prenatal's work! I stop taking them, and I can see the difference. It doesn't start right after, but it was like my hair was strengthened. My hair product stayed well, until I used a shea soap bar soap that I thought was African black soap. My hair is currently healing. Here are some pictures I posted on tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8sqAJRe/.

Remember to talk to your doctor before taking!
